As part of a strategic collaboration with Russian private equity firm AFK “Sistema”, PCH developed an integrated petrochemical company which resulted in the creation of a modern petrochemical business using state-of-the-art technologies in Russia (UPC).
The initial production base of UPC comprised of petrochemical assets of AFK “Sistema” and PCH, in Ufa and in Dzerzhinsk. UPC’s operational management of “Ufaorgsyntez” (a petrochemical asset of AFK “Sistema”) resulted in a threefold increase of profitability, up to $100 million.
During its implementation, UPC conducted the following activities:
UPC also developed technical proposals for AFK Sistema (Bashneft) oil refineries which considered synergies with UPC petrochemicals, such as the utilization of refinery fuel gases (C2, C3) in ethylene cracker, a major modernization of aromatics units aimed to paraxylene output increase from 140 to 400 kta, etc.
Due to a reorganization at AFK Sistema the oil refining assets of the business were transferred to state property and PCH were no longer involved after 2013.
