As part of its Retal business, PCH constructed a plant for biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate films (BOPET) with a capacity of 17,000 tons per year in Obninsk, close to Moscow.
BOPET films benefit from high tensile strength, chemical and dimensional stability, transparency and reflectivity, gas and aroma barrier properties, and electrical insulation which provide outstanding functionality to end markets such as flexible packaging structures, consumer electronics, automotive, green energy, and medical devices.
Cutting-edge equipment from European producers was installed in this plant.
Coface and Kontrollbank provided export guarantees for financing of the project.
The plant was sold, along with Retal business, in 2007.
